League leaders slip to first defeat

Kempston Town leapfrog Sandy into second
Bedfordshire League

Premier Division leaders Westoning Recreation Club slipped to their first defeat, going down 3-0 at reigning champions Caldecote.

Sandy, who had started the day in second, failed to take advantage, losing 3-1 at Campton. Gary Gibson scored twice for the hosts and Andrew Hayday got the other as Campton moved into fifth.

Kempston Town leapfrogged into second place ahead of Sandy with a 3-1 home win over Oakley Sports, who drop to the bottom of the table. A Leeroy Odd brace and an Andy Smith goal gave Kempston all three points after Richard Barrett had given The Sportsmen an early lead.

Fourth-placed Ickwell & Old Warden were held to a 1-1 home draw by Henlow, while Sharnbrook made it three wins in a row with their first away victory of the season, 4-0 at Turvey, thanks to braces from Jamie Billington and Rick Bilzis.

Wilshamstead enjoyed their best win of the , beating Goldington Lions 5-1 at home thanks to a Michael Hutton brace and goals from Colin Merritt, Mark Kelly and Paul Jones.

Blunham continue to climb the table and are now in the top half for the first time this campaign following their 3-1 home win over Luton Borough with goals from Chris Dunne, Rob Lawrence and Matt Hulatt. Bedford SA are still looking for their first home win of the season after losing 2-1 to Riseley Sports. Darren Minney and Paul Brown netting for the visitors and Matt Cheveralls scoring for the hosts.

In Division One Meltis Corinthians maintained their perfect start to the season with their tenth straight win. Goals from Marcus Ashby, Michael Beard and Andy Simms gave them a 3-0 victory at second-from-bottom Elstow Abbey. They remain three points clear of Woburn, who kept their 100 per cent home record intact with a 1-0 win over Campton Reserves thanks to Nick Skolsky goal.

Third-placed Kempston Town Reserves let a two-goal lead and two points slip against Blunham Village as they drew 2-2, Russell Pitts and Tony Millioti on target for Town.

Kempston enjoyed a 7-2 win at Marston Social thanks to a Dale Matthews hat-trick, a Phil Gadus brace and strikes from Jarvis Anderson and Jamie McLenan against replies from home marksmen Steve Marsh and Nick Sherwood. Strikes from Simon Jones, Claudio Jordan, Steve Armstong, Liam Boland and an own goal gave Royal Oak Kempston a 5-0 win at Meppershall Jurrasic, while Flitwick Town retained their unbeaten home record with a 5-0 win over bottom club Saffron.

A James Grandidge brace and a Ben Anderson strike give Reddings Wood a 3-2 home win over Biggleswade Athletic to lift them up to fifth, a point and place ahead of Caldecote Reserves who were 2-1 home winners over Stevington, Mark Field the visitor's marksman.

Despite a goal from Kevin Halsey, Woburn Reserves suffered their first Division Two defeat of the season, 4-1 at Westoning Recreation Club Reserves. As a result Great Barford moved back to the top of thetable with a 4-2 win at Newham Athletic, Mark Wharton and a Dan Ellison on target for the hosts.

Marston Shelton Rovers remain unbeaten and climb into fourth spot after a 8-0 win at bottom side Exel United. Andrew Sherratt hit a hat-trick, Mark Champkin and Antony Brittain claimed braces and Carl Perri go the other. Fifth-placed Russell Park United are just a pint behind, after winning 2-1 at Twinwoods Thistle thanks to goals from Richard Howlett and Callum Hancock to a lone reply from Ben Hannam.

Bedford Albion, meanwhile, slumped to their sixth consecutive defeat, beaten 3-1 at home by Blunham Reserves for whom Mark Inskip netted twice and Zak Henry once. Michael Butler got Albion's only goal.

Ickwell & Old Warden Reserves increased their lead at the top of Division Three to seven points with 4-3 win at Kings AFC for whom Nathan Clements netted twice and Michael Whelan once.

Clifton, who started the day in second, suffered their first defeat of the season, losing 3-0 at Oakley Sports Reserves who now leap above them. Oakley goals coming from Garfield Thomas, Jimmy O'Conner and Charles Rogers.

Caldecote A moved into fifth with a 5-1 win at Riseley Sports Reserves. A Tony Wright hat-trick and Stuart Finding brace too much for Andrew Patching's solitary strike. Sandy A eased to a 3-0 home win over Meltis Corinthians Reserves, while Flitwick Town Reserves moved off the bottom of the table with their first win of the season, 6-1 at Blue Chip who drop into the basement slot. Francis Baughan the Chip scorer.
Despite goal from Ross Waller and Phil Zeltobruhov Wilshamstead Reserves slumped to a 5-2 defeat at Henlow Reserves, while Marsh Leys enjoyed a comfortable 4-1 home win over Lidlington United Sports Reserves for whom Rob Horridge netted.
