Top eight finish for Bedford fencer in Sheffield

Hannah Kerr admits she already has one eye on the World and European Cadet Championships after a creditable performance at the British Senior Fencing Championships in Sheffield at the weekend.

Kerr struggled to find any rhythm during the poule stages, but still managed to grind out five wins from her six fights to progress into the knockout phase.

Two comfortable victories then followed to set up a clash against defending champion Anna Bentley in the quarter-finals.

But the match-up against the Londoner proved just a fight too far for Kerr, as she bowed out 15-4.

She said: "I'm really pleased with a top eight place. I set a goal of a top 16 finish and have gone one better.

"The ranking points from this event will be really useful later in the year when I'm competing for selection to go to the World and European Cadet Championships."
