Trampolinists are jumping for joy

A family of trampolinists are launching a bouncing club in Bedford this summer in a bid to teach children more about the sport.

Dedicated coach John Mitchell, 42, and wife Rosy, of Beverley Crescent, Bedford, launched the only trampoline club in the town – Bedford Flyers – more than eight years ago.

And now Rosy's 23-year-old daughter Rosanna Slade has launched a summer trampolining course to offer children a chance to have a go.

Younger brother Jack, 15, who is studying for his GCSEs at Sharnbrook Upper School, has competed in trampolining at a national level and has also just qualified as a coach.

Older sisters Katy, 29, and Hazel, 27, both also bounce, while 11-year-old William is fast following in his brothers footsteps, with a double back somersault already one of his achieved moves.

Rosanna said: "I have trampolined since I was five and to me and my brothers and sisters being on a trampoline just feels natural. William could probably bounce before he could walk.

"It's such a fun sport and so good for you, I just thought it would be great to give bored kids in the summer holidays a chance to have a go."

John, a scientist at Unilever, set up the club from scratch and runs sessions for children of all ages, along with a team of coaches, three nights a week at Biddenham Upper School.

John added: "Rosanna is a really good coach and she has been trampolining for a long time."

The summer club will be running morning and afternoon sessions throughout August at Biddenham Upper School, which cost £12 for two hours or £50 for a week.

For further information, or to book, call Rosanna on 01234 304392 or 07811 037835.

Today's Vote

Can marathon runner Paula Radcliffe and badminton star Gail Emms win Olympic gold for Bedford?
Paula's injury and the quality of Gail's opponents might make it tough.
I'm backing Paula to fulfil her dream at last.
Gail must do it after her fabulous first round win with Nathan Robertson.
Come on girls! You both can do it!
