Bedford Rowing Club finish on top
BEDFORD Rowing Club's Quart Sprint Regatta was an enormous success on Sunday, with the host club notching up several impressive victories.
There were wins for Gary Patmore, Andrew Hardwick, Michael Funge and Jonathen Thompson in the Senior 3 quad, Andrew Hardwick and Tom Robb in the Senior 3 doubles and Stuart Lewis and Chris Hemmingway in a Senior 3 pair.
Josh Butler and James Beechinor secured a rewarding win in the Novice doubles after a season of hard training for the juniors and Beechinor also went on to win the J15 singles event.
The club's rapidly expanding junior section won Senior 4 double sculls, Junior 15 year sculls and Senior 3 quadruple sculls.
Bedford School took the Senior 2 coxed fours and only lost the Senior 2 eights by two feet.
Dame Alice Harpur and Bedford High SchooL had good days with both winning two events.
Dame Alice won the women's Junior 18 years and the women's Junior 15 years double scull events.
Bedford High won the women's Junior 17 years and 14 years single scull races
Star Club's Veteran C four of Colin Hunt, Simon White, David Taylor and Jonathon Woods produced a great perforamance.
After winning the Henley Veterans Regatta C category on Saturday, they then won the Senior 4 coxed fours at Bedford, with Josh Hetherington coxing.
Star also won the women's Senior 4 quads with Fiona Salusbury, Hanika Rozman, Fee Johnson and Vicki Ebsworth completing a great comeback.
Alex Miller won the Novice sculls events while World Class Start athletes Tom Christie and Joel Grant Jones competed well in their events, showing that there is much to come from this exciting scheme.
On an individual note, Bedford RC's Leon Taylor races in the open U23 event for single sculls at the National Championships this weekend, while Sara Rae was part of the winning UK Gold composite crew who won their Veteran C event at Henley Veteran's Regatta last weekend.
The veteran squad had a successful time at the Llandaff Regatta as the D eight of David Edwards, Mick Parker, Ian Darnell, Jock Lynn, Andy Lynn, Simon Clarke, Maurice Stanbridge, John Impey and Wayne Page won their final.
Star Club member and Sharnbrook Upper School pupil Rosie Henderson continues Bedford's prolific record in producing representative rowers for the country.
She has been selected for the women's junior coxless four to represent Great Britain in the Coupe de la Jeunesse later this month at the Dorney Rowing Lake.
Joining her will be Alice Coxford from Bedford Modern School who will be coxing the Great Britain eight. On the boys front, Ben McKeown and Adrian Wain from Bedford School race in the coxless four and eight.
Bedford School and Bedford Modern School are also represented at the Home Countries International which takes place in Cardiff Bay on 23 July.
Tim Porter, Cameron Austin, Simon Miller and Rauri Milligan race in the junior coxless four with Ali Watkiss being selected to cox the coxed four crew.
Jake and Jesse Burgoine from the Modern School are joined by Richard Oakley and James Fulcher from Bedford School in the England Junior eight.
