Bedford angler in reserve for England team
Bedford angler Adam Worker has been selected as a reserve for the 2009 England Youth flyfishing team.
Worker was one of 29 anglers aged between 12 and 18 who competed at the National Youth Championships which took place at Grafham Water in Cambridgeshire earlier this month.
On one of Anglian Water's premier trout reservoirs, Worker caught the biggest fish of the day, a 4lb 5oz rainbow trout, but fell just short of making the 10-man team.
Queens Works AC held their final Evening League fixture at Manor Farm's match canal last Friday.
Bad weather put a stop to any big catches, but provided an exciting climax to the league.
Venue expert Frank Barratt called upon his vast experience to win the match with 12lb 4oz, Mick Lapworth was second with 10lb, while Micky Astle took third with 9lb 9oz. Section winners were Richard Newman with 5lb 14oz and Bev Fuller with 8lb 3oz.
League leader Steve Cooper struggled with 1lb 1oz and this allowed Paul Stokes to take the title by just one point with a weight of 5lb 10oz.
Astle and Cooper were level on points, but Cooper secured the runner-up trophy with superior weight over the six-match series.
