Flames and Hurricanes fire to league and cup doubles

Over 100 people turned out for the Bedford and District Netball Youth League finals at the Bunyan Centre last week.
In the Division Two Cup final the derby between Westoning Flames and Westoning Gemini, saw the Flames streak to a 7-1 victory.
Flames started strongly, and took the first two quarters despite some spirited play by Gemini.
Gemini fought back to win the third quarter, but Flames took the fourth quarter to record a comprehensive victory.
In a fast and tighter contest Grangers Hurricanes beat Cranfield Swallows 6-2 to claim the Division One Cup.
Grangers took the first two quarters with some controlled netball and, although Cranfield took a four goal lead in the third quarter, Grangers battled back to score the winning goal on the buzzer.
Cranfield regrouped to win the fourth quarter, but the damage was already done.
In the Plate competitions, Maulden Tigers beat Cranfield Strollers to win the Division One trophy and Wilstead Sapphires beat Cranfield Cobras to win the Division Two award.
After the finals, the league trophies were presented to Grangers Hurricanes, who completed a Division One league and cup double, with Cranfield Swallows receiving the runners-up accolade.
Not to be outdone, Westoning Flames did the Division Two double, while Westoning Gemini finished as runners-up.
Meanwhile, teams from as far away as Manchester and Norwich competed at the Cranfield Open Netball tournament for girls aged between U12 and U18 at the weekend.
Dominant Maulden Kestrels soared to the U12 title, while Westoning Comets streaked to success in the U13 competition, Tameside finishing as runners-up.
In the U14 age group Tameside were crowned victorious with Westoning Flames second, while in the U15 section Grangers Hurricanes triumphed with Tameside runners-up.
Tameside ran out winners in the blue ribbon U18 event and, although Cranfield Nomads pushed them close, they had to settle for second place.
