Entertaining bouts at Extremity Fight Night
Bedford Corn Exchange plays host to an evening of kick-boxing
The Bedford Corn Exchange played host to an evening of kick-boxing on Sunday, April 20, and featured a number of entertaining bouts involving East Area fighters.
Twelve-year-old Daniel McGowan was first up and his powerful display in the 32kg category was rewarded with a first round victory against Nemesis Gym's Jack Hamblyn.
In only his second fight, Kane Whitlock (62kg) claimed a draw from his exciting fight against Wutan Gym's Peter Firoski, while John Hassle, fresh from a six month stint in Thailand, proved too strong for Dan Smith (Kierans Gym) in the 66kg group, wrapping up victory after three two minute rounds.
In the 61kg category, Raj Pooni's sharp movement was chiefly responsible for a third round stoppage win against Davisson Greer (Elephant Gym), while Hallam Best, fighting for an English title, was defeated by Eagles Gym's Russell Goodwin in a hard fought five round 76kg encounter.
A highlight of the evening was the International Full Thai Rules contest between East Area's Parnpetch Rirom and Freefight Gym's Colm Gillane.
The bout was Rirom's return to the ring after a number of years as a trainer in the Far East and, although he produced a skilful effort, a sharp elbow to the head earned victory for Gillane.
