Cricket round-up


Ampthill secured local bragging rights on Sunday as they got the better of Flitwick in the Bedfordshire County League Premier Division.

The visitors were dismissed for 209 in the 46th over before bowling out the hosts for 171 to win by 38 runs.

The victory moves Ampthill up to fourth in the table while Flitwick occupy sixth place.

In Division One, Kempston Hammers slumped to a six-wicket defeat against Dunstable Town IIs.

Only Nigel Thorn made any impression with the bat as Kempston were bowled out for just 99, a target Dunstable reached for the loss of four wickets.

Kempston Hammers IIs fared slightly better but still finished on the losing side as Eversholt won by three wickets in Division Two. Kempston made 189 before Eversholt responded with 191-7.

Flitwick IIs enjoyed a massive 247-run victory against Eggington Forresters in Division Three.

Flitwick amassed a huge 355-5 with Sean Nicklin, 88, Mark Tate, 90, Mark Harvey, 59, and Will Mason-Wilkes, 58no, all getting in on the action.

In reply, Eggington collapsed to 108 all out, Paul Thurstance taking 5-22.

In Division Four, Kempston Sports beat Sandy by 80 runs. Kempston made 210-8 before dismissing Sandy for 130.

Wilden were handed the easiest of victories in the Bedford and District League Premier Division after St Neots conceded the match.

Thurleigh, meanwhile, went down to a 34-run defeat at Westfield.

The hosts amassed a total of 119, despite the best efforts of C Franklin and R Stean, who both took two wickets each. In reply Thurleigh were skittled out for just 85.

Thurleigh's second string enjoyed better fortune, earning a 72-run victory against Aryans in the Third Division.

Batting first, Thurleigh amassed a decent total of 218-7, S Roberts making 40 and P Reddington 73. In reply, Aryans were dismissed for 146.
In Division One, Putnoe beat Brickhill by five wickets.

Mark Russell took 4-32 as Brickhill were bowled out for 96, a total Putnoe passed with half of their wickets still intact.

Smiths Arms went down to a 75-run defeat at the hands of Rushden United.
Steve Denton hit 87 as Rushden totalled 182-9, Martin White taking 3-39, but, despite Chris Wain's 62, Smiths were bowled out for a disappointing 107.

Eversholt IIs just about held Little Berkhamsted Sahibs to a draw at the Recreation Ground in Saracens Herts League Division Seven.

Eversholt made 207 off their 53 overs, Mark Ling hitting 32, David Garratt 53 and Darren Ward 39.

In reply, Berkhamsted fell just short on 204-7 off their 47 overs. Andy MacMillan was Eversholt's best bowler with 4-32.
