Bedford FC still looking to open account

Ampthill Town warmed up for Saturday's home FA Cup preliminary round clash with Dunstable Town with an excellent 3-0 Molten Spartan SML Division One win at Cranfield United on Tuesday night.

It is now three league wins out of four for the visitors, who took the lead midway through the first half thanks to Lee Erswell, and doubled their lead just before half time through Mick Mundy.

Town were linking up well in midfield and it was another flowing move that led to Christian Lester adding a third in the second half.

The win for Town followed up on Saturday's 2-0 home success over Amersham Town. Paul Mundy got them off to a flyer in just the second minute, before brother Michael grabbed the second from a free-kick in the 70th minute.

It was a disappointing result for United as they failed to build on the momentum gained from their 4-2 win at Harpenden Town at the weekend, when goals from Mick Hughes and Carl Simms, plus a Dom Lawless double, secured the points.

Elsewhere, Bedford FC are still looking for their first win after they suffered back-to-back defeats. On Saturday, they were on the wrong end of a 5-0 defeat against a physical Hatfield Town.

Andrew Arnold's side were missing several first team players and, had it not been for an outstanding performance between the sticks by Matt Jones, it could have been a much bigger defeat.

After a tight first half, a defensive lapse saw the home side take the lead late in the opening period.

Bedford then got caught by a sucker punch two minutes into second half, before Hatfield killed off the contest with a well taken third on 70 minutes.

It got worse for the visitors, as they lost two key defenders during the match, forcing them to play the last 20 minutes with nine men as they shipped two further goals late on.

On Tuesday night, meanwhile, a Michael Peters effort could not prevent them from slipping to a 3-1 defeat at Winslow United.

Elsewhere in Division One, Bedford Town Reserves sit joint top of the table with four wins out of four, after a Paul Draycott strike earned them a 1-0 success at Buckingham Athletic on Saturday.

Bedford have just undergone a change of manager after Ady Hall stepped up to take an assistant managers role with the first team, making way for Steve Rigby as reserve team boss. They were due to take on Stony Stratford Town last night as they looked to make it five straight wins.

In the Eagle Bitter UCL Division One, a Josh Bamford strike 12 minutes from time salvaged a point for Kempston Rovers from their Division One opener at home to Daventry United.

Wootton Blue Cross, meanwhile, were without a game.

It's a recipe for disaster housing foreign criminals with immigrants who have outstayed their visas and others going through the fast-track immigration process.
