Ampthill cruise past Leighton Buzzard

Aussie McLoughlin fills his boots


Ampthill had too much for Leighton Buzzard as they cruised to a six-wicket victory in the Beds County League Premier Division.

Australian John McLoughlin made an unbeaten 80 as Ampthill passed Leighton Buzzard's total with six wickets intact.

Earlier, James Sneath and Ajaz Hussain took three wickets apiece as the visitors were bowled out for 186.

Flitwick claimed a closely fought seven-run win against Biggleswade.
George Thurstace, 94, Carl Ferguson, 65, and Andrew Hicks, 50, were in form as Flitwick piled up 265-5.

Biggleswade responded well, Jimmy Hart and Daniel Szwajbak hitting half-centuries, but 4-35 from Nic Turner and 3-48 from Daniel Read enabled the visotors to triumph.

In Division One, Harrold beat Southill Park by two wickets after overhauling their target of 221 with eight wickets down while Kempston Hammers went down to Henlow after making 226-8.
Wayne Goldsmith's unbeaten 104 was good enough to lead Henlow to a six-wicket victory.

Sharnbrook were too strong for Ampthill as they made 222-8 before bowling out the vistors for 131, Ian Willis and Jahinder Ahmed taking three wickets apiece.

Kemspton Hammers II beat their Luton Town & Indians counterparts by 29 runs in Division Two, while in Division Three, Flitwick II downed Biggleswade II by three wickets.

In the Development Division there were wins for Ampthill III, Flitwick and Ickwell III against Leighton Buzzard, Potton II and Harrold III respectively.

It was a bad day for Eversholt II who went down to an eight-wicket defeat at Flamstead in Saracens Herts League Division Seven on Saturday.
Eversholt were dismissed for just 139, Luke Kendall top scoring with 50. Flamstead had no trouble in reaching their target, Andy MacMillan taking both the wickets as Flamstead eased to 141-2.

In the Bedford and District League Premier Division Wilden scored a 31-run victory at Bedford Pakistani II.

Wilden struggled to 99 all out, M Warman the mainstay of their innings with 34. Pakistanis' main dangerman was S Hussain who took 4-15. The Bedford side struggled in reply as they were skittled out for a poor 68, S Elphick taking 4-39 and N Wilson 3-28.

Thurleigh scraped to a three-wicket win against Queens Park thanks to the efforts of C Franklin and A Milne. Franklin took 6-26 as Queens Park were bowled out for 128 before Milne hit 49 as Thurleigh reached 130-7. Smith's Arms eased to an eight-wicket victory against Brickhill
in Division One.

Martin White produced a devastating spell of 6-17 to skittle Brickhill for just 93 before Martin Baker hit an unbeaten 39 in Smith's victory.

In Division Two, D Whitworth produced an excellent spell of 8-29 to steer St Andrews to a 94-run victory against Great Barford.

Andrews totalled 211-8, 52 coming in extras, before Barford were rolled over for 117.

Thurleigh II went down by six wickets to Blunham III in Division Three.
Thurleigh's innings came to a close at 151, a target Blunham reached six wickets down.

Westfield advanced to the semi-finals of the George Ripley Memorial Trophy with a 66-run hammering of Brickhill.

Arshad Mahmood top-scored with 43 as Westfield racked up 159-8 with Adrian King taking 4-36.

Brickhill were never in the hunt in their reply, eventually falling well short as they were bowled out for 93.

After what we've been through in Bedfordshire with the riot and fire five years ago, I'd rather the facilities were built somewhere else.
Fair enough, we have got to house failed asylum seekers somewhere.
It's a recipe for disaster housing foreign criminals with immigrants who have outstayed their visas and others going through the fast-track immigration process.
