Government clarifies Deputy PM's statement
Yarl's Wood Immigration Removal Centre is not set to close, it has been announced.

At today's Prime Minister's question time, Deputy Prime Minister announced that the centre in north Bedfordshire was set to close.

However Alistair Burt, government minister and Conservative MP for North East Beds, has clarified the comments made by the Lib Dem leader.

He said: "I understand that the DPM Nick Clegg will be correcting his slip with a statement later today with regard to accidentally announcing the closure of Yarl's Wood IRC, when he was referring
to the closure of the Yarl's Wood Family Unit.

"I am delighted the children will no longer be detained. A robust immigration policy does not require the detention of children, except in the most extreme circumstances."
