Ten stitches for reveller after incident at Chapel 29 in Bedford.
A young woman had to have ten stitches in her head after she was assaulted in a Bedford nightclub.
The incident took place on Monday at Chapel 29, in Mill Street, at around 2.30am. Staff at the venue had already closed the packed club because of technical difficulties when the assault took place.
The emergency services were called and the woman was taken to Bedford Hospital South Wing for treatment.
A spokesman for Bedfordshire Police praised the club for its actions.
She said: "Staff had a really good set-up and coped really well.
"They had already taken the decision to turn the music off and close the club, and then cooperated fully with the police afterwards."
Police investigating believed the injuries could have been caused by a bottle blow to the head.
But Greg Costa, company director of Chapel 29, said he understands the young woman was punched by another girl.
He said: "It was not a major problem, it has just been blown out of proportion.
"We closed the club at around 2.20am because we had technical issues with the sound system and that was before the punch.
"It is clear the incident had nothing to do with the acts performing at the club."
He added: "I have spoken to the injured girl since and she is fine. We have worked extensively with police because safety is so important."
No-one has been arrested in connection with the assault, but a full police investigation is under way.
