Young officer died in road trafgfic collision
A young man who was "a credit" to the police force has died after being involved in a collision with a minibus while riding his motorcycle.
PC Daniel Gibb, 25, of Ashburnham Road, Bedford, was riding his motorcycle along the A507 near Clifton on Sunday at around 5.15am when tragedy struck.
He was heading to London where he worked in the Metropolitan Police's Finchley-based specialist territorial support group, which responds to incidents of public disorder and terrorism.
Chief Supt Mick Johnson, who heads the unit, said: "I am extremely sad to hear about Daniel's death.
"Daniel was an extremely popular and active member of the group. He was a credit to the unit and the Metropolitan Police service.
"The loss of a valued colleague in such sudden, tragic circumstances is exacerbated by the fact that Daniel's father, Ali, is a sergeant also working at the same territorial support group base.
"It was a source of intense pride to Ali that Daniel was successful in being selected for the TSG.
"Our thoughts and sympathy are with Daniel's parents, brother and girlfriend."
Daniel had been a Metropolitan Police officer since August 2004 when he was posted to Camden Borough.
He joined the territorial support group six months ago, and colleagues said he was highly regarded and well known for being a professional, committed officer with a good sense of humour.
He suffered serious head injuries in the collision and was pronounced dead at the scene.
A full collision investigation is being carried out by Beds Police.
