Joint initiative by Bedford and Hertfordshire Police described as "groundbreaking"
Top marks have been given to the Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire Major Crime Unit.

A new Government inspector's report published this month has called the joint task force, "a groundbreaking initiative", and set it out as an example to other police services in England and Wales of how to work together for mutual benefits.

Assistant Chief Constable John Fletcher said: "This report highlights a significant number of strengths in respect of our approach to major crime.

"The new collaborative team has consistently shown over the past eight months that it can produce high-quality results, both in terms of detecting and arresting offenders as well as providing a good service to victims of crime and their families at a critical time."

Since its creation in November 2007 the unit, the first of its kind in the country, has achieved a 100 per cent arrest rate for murders.
