Second man drowns in the river Great Ouse in Bedford.

Victim dies in the same spot as another man drowned on six days earlier
A second man has drowned in the space of a week in the River Great Ouse.

Emergency services received calls at approximately 12.40pm on Sunday, August 3 to say that a man was in difficulties in the river near to Prebend Street Bridge. This was the same stretch where a man drowned on Monday, July 28.

Fire crews arrived within minutes to find the man had been brought out of the river and onto the bank by a passer-by, and a paramedic was trying to resuscitate the man.

Fire crews, who have training in CPR, also tried to revive the man, without success.

Police are now dealing with inquiries around the incident.

Bedfordshire and Luton Fire and Rescue Service crews from Kempston, who were nearby on a training exercise, together with the rescue boat, were initially mobilised to the scene.

Last Monday a man drowned after entering the river in the same area despite efforts by the emergency services.
