Day two of Bedford's summer music bonanza, reviewed by Paul Fisher

Typically British weather failed to dampen the spirits of hundreds of music divas who attended Soul Sunday.

Despite heavy rain during much of the concert, Bedford Park was nevertheless filled with determined fans and picnickers, determined to enjoy their strawberries and cream despite the downpour.

Imagination featuring Leee John kickstarted the evening and stepped on stage to a truly British summertime scene, hundreds of multicoloured umbrellas bouncing up and down.

A few electric dance moves later and the crowd was soon warmed up and ready for some classic soul hits from Rose Royce featuring Gwen Dickey.

There was no sunshine or moonlight, but the clouds briefly parted to allow The Motown Show to blame it on the boogie, performing hits by The Jackson 5, The Four Tops and The Temptations.

With white, flared suits straight out of the 1970s and a superbly sung range of hits, this four-piece really stole the show.

Alexander O'Neal got the damp audience hot under the collar, especially two fanatic female fans who jumped the security barriers and stormed the stage in order to hug their soul hero.

Ultimate Earth Wind & Fire completed a wet and wild night of classic music with some of the soul legends' best known hits.

Are you feeling the pinch in the ongoing credit crunch?
Too right, food and energy bills are hurting the most.
As long as I don't lose my job I'm just about OK
Stocks and shares falling doesn't really affect me.
