Man dies after town centre attack

More than 20 people involved in incident in Midland Road


A man has died in hospital after being attacked in Bedford town centre early on Sunday morning.

Police were called to an incident involving more than 20 people outside Subwich takeaway in Midland Road at 3.17am, where they found a 22-year-old man with serious head injuries.

He was taken to Bedford Hospital and later transferred to Addenbrooke's Hospital in Cambridge, where he died on Monday afternoon.

A post-mortem will be carried out on Tuesday to establish the cause of death.

Two men, aged 18 and 21, have been arrested in connection with the incident and are being held at police stations in Bedfordshire.

Police are appealing for witnesses, and have stressed that all information will be treated in strict confidence.
