Les Thompson takes seat in by-election - by a whisker

A by-election in Flitwick on Thursday night saw the Lib Dems hold onto the seat by a whisker.

Les Thompson held Flitwick East, which became vacant after the death of fellow Lib Dem Coun John Watton in September.

He gained 682 votes, enough to narrowly beat Conservative candidate Andrew Turner's 668 pledges.

Independent candidate Roy Storey finished third with 119 votes, and Chris Fryer of the Green Party had 95 votes.

Turnout was 36.06 per cent, and one ballot paper was spoiled.
