Residents invited to celebrate Marston Vale
Visions of the Vale are needed for a new art and photography competition which has been launched for residents of Marston Vale.

The Marston Moretaine Eco Town Action Group (MMETAG) wants people living in the area to celebrate Marston Vale with their own pictures, whether they are created on canvas or film.

Finalists in the competition will have their work enlarged, mounted and displayed in an exhibition at the Forest Centre at the Marston Vale Millennium Country Park for two weeks over Easter.

Nicola Ryan-Raine, one of the competition organisers, said: "It is about celebrating and recording the wonderful landscape we have around the Vale.

"There is a lot of talk about regeneration because this is supposed to be a 'despoiled landscape', but it really isn't. In fact I believe it is unique because of the clay pits, which nature really has reclaimed and made into something special.

"This is open to people of all ages and abilities. We are all proud of our area and this is a chance to show it."

MMETAG was one of several groups across the county founded by residents to fight plans to build 15,000-plus new homes in mid-Bedfordshire as an 'eco-town'.

Those plans were dropped earlier this month when developer O&H Properties pulled out of the scheme, although the company has said it will still attempt to build the development through the regional planning system instead.

The art and photography competition is sponsored by NVQ Academy, a business based in Marston Moretaine.

Entries must be submitted by midday on March 22 via email to nicola@nvqacademy.com
