MP leads the line for MP's football side
Alistair Burt MP stepped up off the bench(es) last week, to take up his familiar role as one of Parliament's most dedicated footballers.

The North East Bedfordshire MP took part in the final of the inaugural Portcullis Cup, leading the line for the MPs football team against political journalists.

The six-a-side game took place on a public park close to the House of Commons, and was part of a charity event arranged by Virgin Media.

Mr Burt, who supports Bury FC and is a keen member of the MP's football side, netted from the spot as the MPs team won on penalties.

He said: "In six-a-side each side has three penalties, and I was third up. We took our penalties second so I had to score to keep us in it, but I scored and we eventually won 6-5.

"It was a bit of fun but although I am 51 I still enjoy the game. It is great fun and a good way to stay healthy."

Today's Vote

What did you think of Proms In The Park?
Another triumph, possibly the best yet.
I liked the local singers Irene Grant and Bedford Choral Society.
It's not really my scene.
The best thing about it is the fireworks and lasers
