Police seek witnesses after cyclist is injured in collision with car

A professional cyclist was injured following a collision with a car in Polhill Avenue, Bedford.

The accident happened at around 6pm on Tuesday as the rider approached the junction with Dawlish Drive. He suffered cuts and bruises while the motorist, who was turning into Dawlish Drive in a blue Vauxhall Zafira, was uninjured.

Police are appealing for independent witnesses who may have seen what happened to come forward.

PC Martin Lent said: "The bicycle and car collided head-on as they both tried to carry out a manoeuvre at the same time. As it was rush-hour, there were a lot of other vehicles and pedestrians around and I am urging anyone who saw the collision to contact me.

"It is important that we establish exactly what happened."

Anyone with information can contact PC Lent, in confidence, on 01234 841212.
