A second picture, this time with a train heading north, taken near Luton Station by R.G. Cooper in April 1934.


A Handley Page Dart Herald makes a stopover at Luton during a demonstration tour of Britain. The British Midland Airways 50-seater plane was to replace the fleet's ageing Dakotas and, although to be based at the East Midlands Airport, was to be used for flights from Luton to Scotland, Ireland and the Channel Islands.


A Bristol Freighter aircraft arrives back at Luton Airport in June 1949 with a team that had undertaken a six month geological aerial survey in the Middle East.


A new service that allowed drivers to take their cars to and from Ireland was launched between Luton and Belfast in 1959.


November 7, 1935. The Royal honeymoon train carrying the Duke of Gloucester and his Duchess, Princess Alice, speeds through Luton Midland Road station on its way to Scotland. The couple were married on November 6, 1935.

Chiltern Green station on the main Luton-London line pictured in January 1952 at a time when British Railways was proposing closure because of "a serious decline in passengers".

Chiltern Green station served Luton Hoo, but Luton Hoo station, only 600 yards away on the Luton Bute Street to Hatfield and Welwyn line, was more popular with local train users.
