She hasn't been to a meeting in months

A Labour councillor has been booted out of her role after failing to turn up for meetings.

Michelle Kiansumba, who was one of three elected members of Luton Borough Council representing the town's South ward, had not attended a meeting since September 15 last year.

Under council rules and regulations, any councillor who fails to attend a council or committee meeting for six months automatically bars themselves from the role.

There is likely to be by-election on May 6, a council spokeswoman said, adding that outh ward residents should contact their remaining two councillors - Lynda Ireland and Dave Taylor - for help on any local issues.

Mrs Kiansumba, a councillor since 2007, was not available for comment.
