Police appeal for witnesses

A village post office on the hit list for closure was the target of an attempted robbery on Tuesday, July 22.

Beds Police are appealing for witnesses to the incident at the Village Store and Post Office in Luton Road, Chalton, at about 3.20pm, when a teenager threatened a worker with a suspected screwdriver and demanded she open the till.

She refused, and the robber threw the machine to the floor and tried to kick it open, before giving up and running out the door to join an accomplice who had been standing guard outside.

The robber was dressed all in black, with a hooded top and possibly gloves.

He was of mixed race, aged 15 to 20, about 5ft 10ins and of very slim build.

His accomplice, whose sex is unknown, wore a grey hooded top and stood just outside the door.

If you have any information contact Det Sgt Bains, of the Dunstable-based robbery squad, on 01582 473325, or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
