Day long launch dubbed a 'mini-carnival'

Luton's latest landmark building was given a colourful opening.

Nadeem Plaza, at the intersection of Dunstable Road and Leagrave Road, was officially opened on Saturday, May 10, with an almost carnival atmosphere.

The multi-purpose site houses a cafe, shops, flats and offices and features a penthouse boardroom with panoramic views of Bury Park and beyond.

Entrepreneur Mohammed Nadeem was the man behind re-invigorating the previously neglected piece of land.

"We have made people sit up and take notice," he said.

"We have transformed what was once a derelict site, an unofficial rubbish tip. Now I believe people will follow our initiative.

Mayor of Luton Councillor Norris Bullock, MPs, councillors and the TV presenter and new face of Luton Town FC Nick Owen all helped give the plaza a fitting launch.

Mr Nadeem said as many as 4,000 people popped by during the day long event and all enjoyed food, clowns and dancers brought in for the occasion.

"We had such a high turn-out it was exactly like a mini-carnival," he said.

Among the businesses already taking up residence in the complex are a sweet centre, two jewellers, a hairdressers, a mobile phone shop, a boutique, a ladies shoe store, a Polish food shop and a two-storey coffee shop.
